Jeffrey Bartel

Photo of Jeffry BartelJeff Bartel is vice president of Corporate & External Affairs for Florida Power & Light Company, the principal subsidiary of FPL Group, Inc. (NYSE: FPL), heading the company’s external business unit in Florida.

Mr. Bartel joined FPL in 2004 after a successful career in private law practice and government service. He was a senior partner at Stearns Weaver Miller, and prior to that a partner at Steel Hector & Davis, and chaired each firm’s land use and administrative law practices in Miami. He also served part-time as city attorney for local municipalities and performed extensive pro bono and guardian ad litem work for a decade. Before practicing law, Mr. Bartel was chief of staff to U.S. Congressman Díaz-Balart and earlier served as the senior aide to the Mayor of Miami.

Mr. Bartel has been awarded the Keys to the City of Miami for his leadership and was recently awarded the Young Business Leader of the Year award by the Beacon Council for his outstanding contributions to the Miami-Dade economy and community. Currently, Mr. Bartel is chairman of the board of trustees and president of Gulliver Schools, the largest independent primary and secondary school in the Southeast. He also is chairman of Leadership Florida and is on the board of Enterprise Florida. He also serves on the boards of numerous other state and local organizations.

Mr. Bartel holds a bachelor’s degree magna cum laude in government and economics from Harvard University and holds a law degree with highest honors from the University of Florida. He also is a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s program for senior executives and the Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation.

A South Florida native, Mr. Bartel, his wife Caterina, and their daughter Lauren Gianna, reside in Coral Gables.
